Synology® Officially Releases the DS1513+
Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:00

Scalability and efficiency for small and medium businesses

Synology Inc. today launched the DS1513+, which comes from a long tradition of reliable NAS servers. This 5-bay unit brings a new dimension to scalable and powerful storage for small and medium businesses.

“Not only the DS1513+ can be expanded up to 15 bays and 60TB with two DX513 units, it’s also equipped with a fully configurable 4-ports LAN adapter. The DS1513+ is designed to bring perfect balance between bandwidth, safety and cost-efficiency for all our users. Reducing downtimes while providing a high bandwidth capacity is now possible,” declares Wayne An, a product manager at Synology.

The DS1513+ comes with a dual core 2.13GHz CPU and no less than 2GB of RAM, which can be expanded to 4GB. This hardware has been fine-tuned to run on the award-winning operating system DSM 4.2, allowing the NAS to reach data transfer rates up to an average of 350.94 MB/sec (reading) and 202.34 MB/sec (writing) with link aggregation. The DS1513+ embeds many other tweaks such as a brand new screw-less hard drive trays or anti-vibration pads to reduce vibrations and noise level.

Truly all-in-one, the DS1513+ embeds multiple applications that will benefit from this raw power: VPN, Syslog and mail services; DNS, DHCP, printer and web serving, etc. Associated with a powerful LUN management system and advanced iSCSI settings, the comprehensive virtualizations certifications (VMware® vSphere 5 with VAAI support, Citrix® XenServer and Microsoft® Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V) will also caters to all needs of a virtualized architecture.

In addition to bringing efficient multitasking operations, easy management and tons of features, the DS1513+ is designed to optimize data safety. Redundant system fans, multiple network ports with failover support, passive cooling technology on the CPU and hot swappable hard drive design maximize system uptimes. Furthermore, DSM 4.2 enables Synology High Availability (SHA): if one NAS fails, another one can take over automatically. So small and medium businesses can now take advantage of HA solution to ensure business continuity.

In addition, DSM 4.2 provides rich features to boost productivity and simplify tasks, all on a sleek interface optimized for multitasking. It has received numerous media accolades, including PC Mag Readers' Choice – 2 Years in a Row.
