Evolis, a European supplier of customized plastic cards, announced on June 6 that it has been selected to customize drivers’ licenses in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most densely-populated state.
The government in Uttar Pradesh has started issuing smart card driver’s licenses using the new-generation Primacy card printer. During the coming months, almost 200 Evolis Primacy card printers will be deployed to issue more than 10 million cards, a project that will take five years to complete.
This new project confirms Indian government’s longstanding confidence in Evolis -- the Pebble and Dualys printers having already enabled the decentralized customization of millions of drivers’ licenses in 12 other Indian states during the past 10 years.
V.M. Gandhi, managing director of M-Tech Innovations, the pilot integration company, recommended the Primacy printer to the government for its very high-quality printing, robustness and simplicity of use.
This major project will be conducted in collaboration with Rajpurohit Cardtec Ltd., distribution partner to Evolis in India. Evolis has recently announced its plan to take over Rajpurohit Cardtec Ltd. as part of its vertical integration strategy, in order to take full advantage of the exciting potential presented by the Indian market.
